JEPROX |The Project x Manila Animal x Team Manila
It’s a frame set collaboration between The Project (Local fixed gear brand), Team Manila, and myself as Manila Animal.
This is designed for the streets of Manila but can also be used on the velodrome. Very aggressive geometry and tight clearances. No brake holes provided and there’s a little toe overlap when turning at very slow pace. In short, I have the seasoned, or experienced fixed gear rider in mind when i was designing this frame.
We incorporated the Manila Animal concept into this project as it is a very fitting term for someone who can survive, or even flourish, in riding through the traffic of this concrete jungle we call Manila. Just like an exotic animal is at home in the middle of it’s jungle habitat, a “manila animal”, with his or her heightened sense of survival and adventure, is also at home in the sprawling chaos of Manila.
This batch is called “Jeprox” -Pinoy slang for “projects”, an homage to the “pasaway” youth of the seventies. Those who defied the conventions of their time. This is a one-off batch. If things go well, the next batch will be a totally different animal.

With two world titles to his name in the Under-23 ranks, Team Giant-Alpecin rider Lars van der Haar came into the 2015-2016 cyclocross season with a handful of big goals. He has already checked off a couple of these—a win at the Valkenburg World Cup and the title of European champion—and the 24-year-old now has his sights set on the upcoming world championships in Belgium. The Hook 3 is built from the ground up to be fast and light. The full carbon fiber frame and fork is manufactured with a layup technique that allows more strength and stiffness to be created in certain areas. The full internal cable routing not only makes for a cleaner look, it actually helps to avoid mud build up which often occurs around the exposed cables and guides. The front and rear DT Swiss thru-axles add to the rigidity of the frame as well as providing a stronger wheel set up. Sliding over the axles are the DT Swiss R23 hubs, which use a spline flange system with straight pull spokes and a specific lacing for maximum stiffness. These are connected to the wide, tubeless compatible rims with cold forged and butted spokes for the stronger wheel build.
The Sram Force 1 group set on the Hook 3 was specifically developed for Cyclocross, with a clutch action derailleur and wide/narrow chainings working together to maintain an even chain tension, avoiding the risk of a dropped chain. The Force 1 hydraulic brakes provide supreme braking power and modulation allowing for more confidence when braking hard for corners and in fast descents.

Podia was given access to the inner sanctum of the Campagnolo factory in Vicenza, Italy. It is not often that cameras are allowed through security and so we thought that such an opportunity warranted the production of a short film.
