Fixed On Fixed
Fixed On Fixed is a short film clip profiling five female bicycle riders and their love of riding fixed gear.
Riding fixed gear is not only about the bike but also the community that comes with it and this particular fixed gear community is a small, passionate collection of riders who all share a love of riding slightly differently from one another.
Fixed On Fixed profiles each rider, along with the group as a whole, to share their individual story and collective experience in what riding means to them.

The World’s Toughest Track Bike Race w| Austin Horse & Nico Deportago-Cabrera
“Cielos Infernales” was being billed as the world’s toughest track bike race. The first of it’s kind- long, brutal, fast with miles of climbing into the clouds- on one gear in live traffic. 75 miles and 3 mountain ascents completely unsupported. It’s the first time an all-fixed gear alleycat has required the fitness and endurance of a stage race, and the street handling of a messenger. Plus racing in open streets in Mexico City is always a risk. Traffic is wild, roads are rough, and there’s always a chance of a stray pothole, dog, donkey or car catching you out.

SF Bike Expo 2015 | FGFS Jam
Words cannot convey how amped I was to see so many familiar faces at the FGFS Jam during the SF Bike Expo this year. The Bay Area came out in force to show it’s support for the scene and throw down on the course they constructed inside the Cow Palace. This is the first year they’ve allowed us to ride inside the convention center, which sounded like a great idea until Boothby hung up on the rafters throwing a backflip during practice. Shout out to Johnathan Ball for shooting video and helping cover the event in-between riding in it. Once again, coverage of the provided by Suck My Cog and yours truly here at Wheel Talk. Thank you to everyone who showed up and look forward to more Jams rolling out in the coming year.

Speedvagen Family Racing | Laura Winberry
from The Vanilla Workshop
“Speedvagen is more than just a bike brand, it’s a family. The time spent learning a rider’s needs, and building a bike that exceeds those needs creates a special bond. The Speedvagen Family Racing (SVFR) team is an extension of those relationships we have built over the years. SVFR riders are a group of kindred spirits who are looking for a partnership, not a sponsor. Our riders go fast, but not at the expense of the enjoyment and camaraderie the cycling community fosters. Each member of the team is a friend first, and a racer second.
Our first video profile looks at Laura Winberry, who embodies the Speedvagen Family Racing ethos perfectly. Racing is her passion, but not her entire life. Laura is always looking for a creative outlet to express herself, and riding for Speedvagen is just one aspect of that.
In Laura’s words, “When I train and race I don’t go by numbers or data or watts, I go by feel and intuition and a little-big thing called heart. SVFR is an extension and an embodiment of the latter, the feel and the intuition and the heart. While racing itself is a huge component of why I do what I do, the experience and the individuals surrounding that experience are just as important. Really, there’s family of origin and there’s chosen family, and it’s about what you want to look back on, if you get the chance to look back. SVFR is part of all that, it’s chosen family and it’s part of what I want to look back on. It’s like Jay Z says: my brothers is my brothers like my brother is”.
