Genre de Vie is a documentary film about bicycles, cities and personal awareness. It looks at desired space and our own impact to the process of it. The film documents urban life empowered by the simplicity of the bicycle.
Today we are facing environmental issues more than ever. While architects, urban designers, policymakers and thinkers discuss the future of our cities, more and more people become aware of their own impact and use of space. Genre de Vie uses the bicycle to explore personal awareness and finds out how cycling contributes to the future livability of cities.

HORSING AROUND WITH AUSTIN HORSE
Not long ago we got to meet Austin Horse – if you don’t know his name then it might interest you that he was Joseph Gordon Levitt’s stunt double in Premium Rush. He’s also known as the fastest bike messenger in NYC.We tailed him for a bit in downtown Kuala Lumpur until we couldn’t keep up anymore and then decided maybe it was better to just sit down somewhere before our hearts gave way.

Last year I decided to ride Route 66 end to end by bicycle. I time lapsed the entire trip on my GoPro. This is what it looked like compressed into 2 1/2 minutes. The strongest, smartest and fastest bike messengers from across the planet converge once a year to determine who is the best in a variety of events that test riders’ physical and mental limits. It is a fully insured competition on a closed course that is sanctioned by the International Federation of Bike Messengers Associations (IFBMA). It’s a world championship sporting event but it is also a world festival celebrating messenger culture and its broad influence on modern urban culture.
The championships host a variety of related galas, shows, parties and vendor markets where spectators mingle with messengers to get a jump on the latest bike trends and urban utilitarian fashion. The side events showcase the artistic, photographic, musical and literary talents of the world’s hardest working professional athletes. While most of the competitors are bike messengers, the events are open to everyone with many non-messengers enjoying the challenge of the competition.”
